GRADUATE STUDENTS
Meet with Dr. Manjula Shyam (GSIA Room 127, Phone: 268-7055, email: manjula@andrew.cmu.edu) to ensure that you are eligible to study abroad. Dr. Shyam will discuss various study abroad programs available and help you to select one that meets your own needs.
After choosing a program, submit the following forms to Manjula Shyam.
Biographical Information Form (Click here for a copy of the form)
A copy of your latest transcript from GSIA
A one page explanation of why you would like to study abroad
A copy of your resume
Make sure you have a valid passport and obtain a visa if it is needed
UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS
The first step that interested students should take is to meet with Dr. Claudia Kirkpatrick, Director of the Industrial Management Program, to ensure that they are eligible to study abroad. The Exchange Student Approval form must be signed by Dr. Kirkpatrick.
Next, make an appointment with Dr. Manjula Shyam to find out about the various study abroad programs available, to select one that meets your own needs.
After choosing a program, submit the following forms to Manjula Shyam

A one page explanation of why you would like to study abroad
Dr. Manjula Shyam will notify you of your acceptance shortly after receiving the above documents. You will receive an official acceptance letter from Dr. Shyam.
Make sure you have a valid passport and obtain a visa if it is needed
You should meet with your academic advisors to receive departmental approval on the courses that you can take abroad.
Students receiving financial aid must see their financial aid advisor. Estimates for all costs associated with the study abroad program must be presented to the advisor. The financial aid advisor must sign the Exchange Student Approval form. Please note that some scholarships do exist for study abroad programs, but these are very limited. For more information and eligibility please see the Office of International Education.
Make an appointment with the study abroad advisor at the Office of International Education (OIE), second floor, Warner Hall and give her a copy of the acceptance letter from Dr. Manjula Shyam. The study abroad advisor will then give you a Study Abroad Transfer Credit Permission form (SATC). Dr. Claudia Kirkpatrick must sign this form. She will also be able to help you with additional information.
Return the signed SATC form to the Office of International Education. Registration will then be handled by the study abroad advisor. The SATC explains all that is required for a successful transfer of credit.
Study Abroad Packets are available at OIE. The packets include detailed information about preparing to study abroad. In addition, please attend OIE's study abroad information/orientation sessions. The sessions discuss travel abroad, medical concerns, academic issues, living abroad, cultural adjustments, returning to the U.S., etc.
