
John Turner, Ph.D. 2010, received the George B. Dantzig Award for the best dissertation at the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) Annual Meeting in November, 2011.
According to INFORMS, "The George B. Dantzig Award is given for the best dissertation in any area of operations research and the management sciences that is innovative and relevant to practice. This award has been established to encourage academic research that combines theory and practice and stimulates greater interaction between doctoral students (and their advisors) and the world of practice."
Turner, now assistant professor of operations at the University of California, Irvine, was recognized for his dissertation, "Ad Slotting and Pricing: New Media Planning Models for New Media." The dissertation (.pdf) and abstract (.pdf), was developed with faculty oversight by Sridhar Tayur, Ford Distinguished Research Chair; Professor of Operations Management.
Turner is the first Ph.D. graduate from the Tepper School of Business to be honored with this award.
