Data Resources at The Tepper School of Business

Data resources available to the Tepper community consist of licensed access to individual datasets and software packages, as well as access to Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS). WRDS is not data. It is a web-based front end which allows easy access to data. It is described in more detail below, after a description of (some of) the data that are accessible via WRDS.

• Bloomberg Live financial market data with historical data access.
• Compustat. Financial statement data for U.S. and international corporations.
• Center for Research in Securities Prices (CRSP). U.S. stock and bond data.
• Datastream.
• Dow Jones/Wilshire Global Equity Indices. International equity market indices.
• International Financial Statistics (IFS) . International finance and macroeconomic data from the IMF.
• Ivy DB OptionMetrics. U.S. equity and index option data.
• Mergent Fixed Income Securities Database (FISD). Corporate bond and other fixed-income security data.

The CMU library provides access to an extensive set of business and economics data. This goes far beyond search/access facilities like LexisNexis, etc. For example, in 2008 the library acquired VentureXpert, a Thomson/Reuters dataset on venture capital and private equity.

Software

CMU provides the campus community with an extensive set of software, much of which is of direct interest to the business school community (e.g., Matlab, Mathematica, etc.). WRDS

Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS). WRDS is a web-based data retrieval service that allows users easy access to several major business and economics datasets which Tepper subscribes to independently of WRDS. These datasets are Compustat, CRSP, Mergent FISD and OptionMetrics. WRDS also provides access to the following publicly available datasets: Bank Regulatory, Blockholders, CBOE Indexes, CISDM, DMEF, Dow Jones, FDIC, Fama French, Momentum, and Liquidity, Federal Reserve Bank Reports, PHLX, Penn World Tables, SEC Disclosure of Order Execution, TRACE.
