Federal Funding Announced for Business Incubator at New Buffalo Township Business Park in Butler County

            SARVER, PA —More than $399,000 in Federal funding was announced yesterday in support of a business incubator that will be established in partnership with Carnegie Mellon University in the newly created Buffalo Township Business Park in Butler County. The project will help connect Carnegie Mellon University’s strengths in interdisciplinary collaboration, research, new technology development, and entrepreneurship with start-up businesses dealing with new and emerging technologies. 

             The project is a partnership between Carnegie Mellon University, via the Donald H. Jones Center for Entrepreneurship at the Tepper School of Business, the Buffalo Township Board of Supervisors, and Butler County Commissioners. The Federal funding for the project was announced yesterday by U.S. Congressman Jason Altmire (Pa, District 4) at a public program that included remarks by local and county development officials and Professor S. Thomas Emerson, the David T. and Lindsay J. Morgenthaler Professor of Entrepreneurship at the Tepper School of Business.

             “Carnegie Mellon University has already helped to create or attract more than 200 companies employing approximately 9,000 workers to Southwestern Pennsylvania” said Emerson. “We have seen successful companies begin in our classrooms and we have had great success in pairing graduate-level entrepreneurial students with businesses, and individuals from other disciplines to form new business ventures.

             What is needed now is labratory space within our region for these fledgling companies to further develop their technologies and plan their business,” added Emerson.” We look forward to this park becoming a home for technology developed at Carnegie Mellon University and within our region.”

             Ultimately, the companies that utilize and grow through use of the incubator are expected to add valuable knowledge-based jobs for the region, which will support a bright future for Pittsburgh and its surrounding communities   The Buffalo Township Business Park is more than 50 acres of commercial development, located at the Northwest corner of the intersection of Pennsylvania Routes 28 and 228.
